About .swiss domains

.SWISS is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) delegated in the DNS root zone. The registry operator responsible for .SWISS is listed by IANA as Swiss Confederation. Anyone can typically register a .SWISS name through an accredited registrar, subject to the registry’s registration policy and ICANN consensus policies.

.swiss is a top-level domain (TLD) for Switzerland. It was approved by ICANN as a TLD on 16 Oct 2014. This is meant to supplement the traditional .ch TLD. The Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) began registering .swiss domains as of 7 September 2015. Open registration to other legal entities begins from 11 January 2016.

Who can register .swiss domains?

Eligibility is defined by the registry operator and its registrars. Most gTLDs are open to anyone worldwide. Many ccTLDs are also open globally; some require local presence, citizenship, or trademark rights. Always confirm current policy with the registry or your registrar.
